Welcome Ellis to Finding Bliss in Books!

Oh, hi! (Notice how casual I am about this.) This Ellis person the title mentions? That's me. Shocking, I know. I think I might still be in shock, though. When Blythe asked me to join her and Mel for snarkfests and shenanigans on Finding Bliss in Books, I jumped off my bed, fell, and bruised my butt. It is the Belgian way. It is also my way of saying how incredibly excited I am to become part of the team. I'M IN. YEAH.

Special shout-out to the Swag Bird! I do believe that was the deciding factor.

Some of you might already know me from my ramblings over at The Random Transliterator or the even weirder things that come out of my mouth (well, technically, fingers) on the tweeteur. For those who have managed to steer clear of my face, allow me to make a somewhat good decent impression. Oh, this is (part of) my face, by the way:

I am a 21-year-old language student from Belgium. It is that tiny dot above France that's mostly known for its production of chocolate, beer and rain. Now you will also know it as The Land of Ellis. (Please don't make this a thing. It was a joke.) As far as the interest in languages goes, nowadays that mostly consists of my making up very ridiculous words and teaching people how to swear in Dutch. It is a very lucrative business.

I am in a very serious relationship with books, but it gets frustrating sometimes. Some books just won't let me love them. While I am a critical reader, I always try to look at a situation from as many angles as possible. I also consider myself a slow reader. It probably takes me so long to get through a book because I tend to reread my favourite passages until I have them memorised. I can recall certain parts of Finnikin of the Rock, Bitterblue, Stealing Parker (WILL WHITFIELD) and the Fever series word for word. Also a very specific page from The Falconer. It's how I lull myself to sleep sometimes.

As for reading tastes, I like to read both adult and young adult fiction, but I gravitate more towards YA because reasons. Feels reasons. While I'm currently trying to read more contemporary fiction, fantasy is  - and always will be - my first love, whether it is of the high, low, epic, or urban variety. I used to be big on dystopian.

There is probably more I can say, but this was supposed to be a quick intro. I have a problem with words, in that I use too many of them. I'm just REALLY FREAKING EXCITED TO BE HERE.

So, any questions?

    1. EEP. Thank you, Faye! That's so sweet of you to say ^_^ I'm so excited about this that I should probably find a new word for it. "Excited" is just not doing it anymore.

  2. Welcome to the blog officially, Ellis! I think I'm the opposite to you--I tend to be a fast reader. So I wouldn't be able to recall passages word to word for my life. Apart from some Percy Jackson books and The Book Thief. I constantly go back and read and re-re-read my favourite parts >.<

I must go and visit The Land of Ellis (HAH! Too late now) one day!

    1. Mel! Thank you so much! Sometimes I wish I was a fast reader, so I could read all of the books. Yes to rereading favourite parts. You should see my copy of Mistborn. I think I have about half of the pages bookmarked, exactly because of the rereading favourite parts forever thing.

Oh boy, I knew I shouldn't have called it that. Oh well. You absolutely MUST come visit one day. For towel-dancing purposes, of course.

    2. It's okay, Ellis. You and I can be the slow readers of the blog. Because I am also a very slow reader.

  3. Yayyyy! I THOUGHT there was going to be a new co-blogger but I didn't know who it was. Excite! At this point I feel like by the end of the year, after all the collaborations that are forming, we're all going to be working out of a single blog!

    3. In hindsight, I probably should have lumped these replies together. Hi, Kara! Thank you! Oh, I remember. That bird :D Congrats on finding the easter egg, by the way! It was so hard to stay out of that conversation. I'm going to try and split my time between both blogs, but we'll see how that goes.

  6. ELLIS! Queen (or king, if you prefer, whichever, to hell with gender roles) of the Land of Ellis, lover of books and teacher of Dutch swear words, CONGRATULATIONS!! The readers of Finding Bliss in Books don’t know what they’re in for but I do and it’s going to be SPECTACULAR!! I’m so happy for you and I can’t wait to see what kind of shenanigans you get up to with Blythe and Mel. I’m sure I will lul heartily.

    1. MEG! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I knew I should have asked you to write my intro. "Hey, Meg! Want to write some words about me because reasons?" You probably would have done it, too. The Land of Ellis will be ruled Lumatere-style. As it should be. Lul at your lul. Figures you'd pick up on that, you student of Dutch swear words. And an excellent student at that. The readers of Finding Bliss in Books are fabbity fab so I'm not allowed to give them anything less than spectacular! PRESSURE.

  7. I love this post. I haven't had the chance to read anything else from you yet, but your snark and wit are right up my alley. I reread great passages all the time in the middle of reading a book (and only wish I could memorize them). And, to be perfectly blunt, you are the only person I've ever had use the word feels in a way I kind of loved and I never love that! So excited to see what's coming :)

  8. Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii, Ellis! Have some hugs and more chocolate. Since you are alive, you clearly have not had enough. MORE CHOCOLATE FOR THE GIRL IN THE CHOCOLATE KINGDOM.

Oh hey, I didn't realize you're just a year or so older than me! Also, your picture always makes you look EXACTLY like one of my friends. You guys could be twins, the resemblance is so close. Creepy. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing even more of your lovely face all up in my Blogger feed and getting more of your wit.

PS 292 lol. (Since I don't ship them, I'm all whatevs on that page.)

PPS I promise not to get The Land of Ellis started. Seeing as I got one of my professors to start calling our class's four Nicks Nick the First, Nick the Second, etc. after I did it ONCE, I have the power to do it, but I won't. I will conserve my evil powers.

    1. Hi, Ashleigh, hi! Aw, you spoil me. Doesn't mean it isn't welcome because ALL THE CHOCOLATE ALL THE TIME. Omg, the chocolate kingdom. YES PLEASE.

You guessed I was younger, right? I get that a lot. Not. So I have a doppelgänger? Nice. Verrrry nice. My face has changed a bit since this picture was taken, though. Maybe she's a me from the past. Time travel is real! Ahem. Thank you so much! That's so incredibly nice of you to say!

PS I saw that you were a Gaileana shipper. This does not compute. I mean, I could see them getting married, but it would be a marriage between friends. No babies, because reasons.

PPS I could see you having such power. Might I suggest using them towards launching The Chocolate Kingdom as a valid name change? Hahaha, those poor Nicks. Well, at least you made something royal out of it, instead of a NICKname thing. (See what I did there? You should. I even drew special attention to it.)

  11. Bahahahaha, IT IS THE BELGIAN WAY. At least if you did all that while consuming beer and choco, then yes. CALM YO PRAMMEN, ELLIS. IT IS NOT THAT EXCITING.

HAHA JK THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME TO HAVE NON-CALM PRAMMEN!

Favorite people combining to take over the woorrrrrlllllld.

    YOUR FACE IS LARGER.

You are so young. *pats* The production of rain? Wow, you guys do a lot of work. Atlanta takes more than its fair share of your product btw.

    Questions....hmmmmmmmmm

    1) What is your craziest camp story that actually INVOLVED you?

    2) Gut reaction: which book do you most want to feed to a Balrog?

    3) What is your spirit animal?

    4) If you there were a show made about your life, what kind of show would it be?

    5) What are you eating right now?

    6) WHEN ARE YOU READING CROAK?

    1. I WILL NEVER CALM MY PRAMMEN. THEY ARE NOT MADE TO BE CALMED.

Thank you!! You are a favourite, too.

Here's a secret: it's even larger in person. Whoa. Bet you hadn't seen that coming, huh?

Atlanta should pay us rain taxes then. Sure, I'm young. Let's call it that.

      1) Oh, okay, there are limits to this because public sphere and all. There was this Easter camp when I was 14 when we were walking at night. There was a lot of walking. Apparently it builds character or something. All of a sudden, this van races by, so half of the group has to jump out of the way. Everyone is like "WTF van?" but we walk on, until some people from the back start calling a girl's name. Turned out the van that had just almost killed half of the group had kidnapped her.

We get to the camp side, our leaders are telling us that they contacted the police, everyone is crying and getting super hysterical. I'd already passed that stage but everyone was riling each other up and it was just no good. I yelled that the best thing we could do was stay calm. Someone yelled they should listen to me and for some reason, they all started looking at me for guidance. Because I deal so well with responsibility.

Two cops showed up, asking us to give a description of the van. Everyone was super helpful, saying it was blue, or maybe black, no definitely brown and this one loser said he saw it was yellow with a white roof (wtf?). While they're interrogating the group, we see a figure with something in his arms approaching. They'd found her, dumped on the side of the road. A whole lot of drama. Turned out it was a joke. They'd planned the whole thing with another group. YAY CAMP.

      2) The Edge of Never, obvi. No, wait. Rapture (Fallen #4). I wish that had happened, a Balrog jumping out from behind a cactus and eating them all. In both cases.

      3) I actually have one and it is because I was in the scouts for so long. They give you a totem and mine is "fijnzinnig sikahert". Hahaha, try to Google Translate that. It's a deer. I'm a deer.

      4) Georgia Nicolson TV series. Hands down. As for genre, I think that would fit into dramatic comedy. It's a thing.

      5) Nothing. Buuut, the last thing I ate was a potato. Good enough for you?

      6) WHEN I AM DEAD. I'm a mood reader, so I think I'll be in the perfect mood then.

  12. FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I want you to know I only typed that "A" as long as I could hold the note in real life. FUCKING AWESOME, MAN. I love this. I love all of you and seeing you all work together is the best thing ever.

    1. Why are you so awesome?

    2. Kiss/Marry/Kill:
    Blythe/Meg/Gillian

    3. How do I insult someone's mother in Belgian?

    4. Where can I set up a Land of Jessie?

    5. Why is Kiaran not here?

    6. Do you yacht any particular relationship?

    7. Are you part of the Wee Peeta Collective?

    8. When does your next single "If I Was A Gamemaker, You'd Get a 12" come out?
    Baller-status.

      Whatwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Huh, I thought that would be longer. I used to play the oboe, so I had more control over my breath. Oh well. Aw, thank you!

      1. If you lie down with dogs, you will get up with fleas.

      2. No way am I killing Blythe. She'd win anyway. Marry Blythe, kiss Meg and kill Gillian. So yeah, I kill the single person, and make the other two cheat on their husband/boyfriend. That's how I roll. BUT, I'm only killing Gillian if I can get Damon Salvatore to turn her first, if I find the poison Juliet used in Romeo and Juliet, or if her overdosing on her own baked goods counts a valid method.

      3. Ha, let me teach you the basics. Yo momma = u moeder (politely vulgar), u mama (vulgar), a moeder (completely vulgar; only used in specific Belgian dialects, i.e. my dialect). Additional tips: always go for a point of pride. Use the indirect insult. "Oh, we're having macaroni. Did grandma make it? Hers is delicious."

      4. Do you speak French? In that case, I can offer you Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium. We'd be neighbours. I mean, you can still make it the Land of Jessie, and they'll just have to deal with English as the new official language.

      5. Ashleigh chased him away.

      6. Finnikin/Evanjalin, Georgia/Dave the Laugh, Mac/Barrons, Sephy/Callum, Scarlet/Rob

      7. *Ron Swanson voice* I don't know, am I? How do you constitute "collective"? How would you define "part"? Is Peeta really wee or is that what society tells us he is?

      8. Right before I try to seduce and kiss Meg. It will be my boombox-under-the-window song, though I might get sued for plagiarism.
